QNAP TS-h686 and TS-h886

The first models of the new high-end series are the TS-h686 and TS-h886. The TS-h686 offers a total of six hard drive bays, four of which include 3.5-inch drives and two 2.5-inch SSD. The TS-h886, on the other hand, relies on six 3.5-inch drive bays and two 2.5-inch SSD bays. The TS-h686 uses an Intel Xeon D-1602 with two cores and four threads at a base clock of 2.5 Ghz and a turbo of up to 3.2 Ghz. The NAS provides 8 GB ECC RAM (2 4 GB). The TS-h886, on the other hand, uses an Intel Xeon D-1622 with four cores and eight threads at 2.6 Ghz base and 3.2 Ghz turbo clock. The 16 GB ECC memory is distributed across two 8 GB modules, both of which support up to 128 GB DDR4 ECC memory.

In addition, both NAS offer two M.2 interfaces for Nvme Ssds, four 2.5 Gigabit LAN ports (RJ45), two Pcie 3.0 x8 slots for expansion cards and three USB 3.0 ports. With an SSD cache, you can increase IOPS performance and reduce latency by bundling the four 2.5GbE ports. The Pcie slots can also be used for graphics cards to add an HDMI output or add virtual machines.

Quts hero with ZFS instead of ext4

As an operating system, both models rely on the new ZFS-based Quts-hero operating system, which offers data integrity, inline data deduplication and compression, snapshots and real-time Snapsync, among other features. Additional applications can be added via the Appcenter. According to QNAP, the rackmount NAS systems with Quts hero have found great popularity among customers, which is why the first NAS with desktop form factor are now equipped with it.
