RebornOS is a flexible and highly customizable rolling release based on the Linux distribution Arch Linux, which follows the KISS principle and is primarily aimed at advanced users and is about to follow in the footsteps of Antergos. The next distribution claims its heritage

The Galician-based Antergos Linux distribution, which was discontinued in May 2019, has left a large gap within the Linux community as a particularly beginner-friendly arch derivative that is completely preconfigured, the in the meantime numerous potential heirs of the previously popular rolling release argue.

The Galician word "Antergos" translates to "Ahne," whose legacy is commonly associated with the Dutch distribution EndeavourOS. But also other projects like the ArcoLinux from the pen of the Belgian developer Erik Du-bo-is and the still young Garuda Linux are in the running.

Typical for an arch derivative, RebornOS is also based on the latest of all operating system kernels of type Linux 5.8 and welcomes the user after installation with state-of-the-art software packages in its repositories, which are available on request with the help of a graphical package management, install the RebornOS installer based on "Cnchi". For example, the browsers Firefox 80, Chromium 85 and Opera 71 as well as the free office suite LibreOffice 7.0, but also numerous beta and developer versions are available via the package management of the Linux-Distribution offered.

The selection of current software is also expanded by the Linux package management Flatpak, which has installed applications from the rest of the system using a sandbox and has improved P2P support for the installation of the OSTree Peer-to-Peer in version 1.8. In addition, the software manager Pamac is also available, which lists applications and tools clearly prepared for the user and enables quick installation, uninstallation and updates.

Also for players is taken care of, because the Windows-compatible runtime environment Wine is in version 5.14 also on board and invites together with the FOSS game manager Lutris to play under Linux.

Freedom of choice between ten working environments

RebornOS also offers beginners the opportunity to choose between a total of ten working environments in the form of full-size desktop environments and resource-saving window managers and to get to know them without much prior knowledge. In addition to the well-known sizes such as KDE Plasma 5.19.5, Gnome 3.36.5, which will soon be superseded by Gnome 3.38 and Xfce, there is also the well-known Deepin Desktop Environment (DDE), MATE, Cinnamon and the lightweight OpenBox, i3, LQXt and Enlightenment.

The approximately 2 GB large system image of RebornOS (ISO) can be written with a corresponding tool such as Ventoy or Rufus on a USB storage medium and afterwards risk-free test as live operating system.
