Asus wants to be first in monitor with HDMI 2.1
In a press release, Asus announces the world’s first "4K and 120 Hz" HDMI 2.1-certified gaming monitor. But Asus does not yet reveal the product name of the monitor of the ROG series. At 43-inch screen size, this 3,840 should offer 2,160 pixels and a variable refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. Via HDMI 2.1 with 48 Gbit/s this is possible without any compromises, while with Displayport 1.4 data compression is necessary. Asus promotes with a certification by the Allion Labs, which recently introduced a test procedure for the FRL technology (Fixed Rate Link) of HDMI 2.1, which is necessary for the high data throughput.
Multiple monitors with HDMI 2.1 at the end of the year
For the time being, Asus will not reveal any more details about the ROG monitor with HDMI 2.1 and 43 inch. But this and other monitors with 32-inch and 27-inch should be released towards the end of the year and ready for the new console generation with Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X.
With the launch of next-generation gaming consoles later this year, ASUS ROG will have a broad portfolio of HDMI 2.1 gaming monitors for the Christmas season. These monitors will be available in 27, 32 and 43 inch models.
An alternative are game-compatible televisions such as the LG OLED 48CX (Test) and the Sony Bravia A9 Master Series, which already support 4K UHD with 120 Hz over HDMI 2.1.
