Logitech G923 Trueforce: Steering wheel improves force feedback with new SDK
Logitech announces G923 Racing wheels |
Improved force feedback is the most important innovation in Logitech’s new G923 game steering wheel. The company is thus addressing an important criticism of its predecessor: In the G920 (comparison test), Todayus criticized the indifferent feedback of the vibration motors.
The product name with the addition
"Trueforce" indicates this improvement. Behind this is a high-resolution force feedback technology, the trick of which is to be the type of image. Developers would normally derive force feedback models for their individual vehicles based on their physics engines, writes Logitech. However, the G923 does not require this level of abstraction because it works directly with the physics and audio engine and calculates corresponding, more accurate effects in real time from the information extracted there.
Three games with Trueforce effects
According to the long compatibility list on the product page, the G923 can be used with a wide selection of games. However, the new Trueforce effects currently support only three titles: They are only used in Codemasters Grid, Assetto Corsa Competizione and Gran Turismo Sport via the associated SDK. All other games use the old force feedback system. The first hands-on impressions of The Verge and Engadget indicate that Trueforce is more than marketing. Both report a much finer feedback, which results in a clearly improved feel. To what extent the G923 thus positions itself to expensive Sim solutions from Fanatec or Thrustmaster, however, cannot yet be derived.

Other features of the steering wheel include a programmable dual clutch to facilitate starts, a speed indicator, game console control buttons, a selection indicator and a progressive brake pedal, which increases the pedal resistance exponentially as in a real vehicle.
UVP remains
Logitech recommends the G923 Trueforce at a price of around 400 euros. It thus remains unchanged compared to its predecessor, which is, however, already available on the market for around 267 euros. As usual with Logitech products, market prices can therefore be expected to fall after publication. The steering wheel will be available for purchase on Xbox One and PC from August 2020 through Logitech’s website and retail outlets. A G923 in the Playstation layout, which can be used on Sony console and the PC, will also be available, both variants will also work with the respective next-gen consoles.
