GeForce GTX 1650 GDDR6 im Test: Effizienter Turing-Einsteiger mit GDDR6.

At first, the Geforce GTX 1650 with GDDR6 seemed to be an exclusive model for Asia. Some time later, however, it became clear that the Geforce GTX 1650 GDR6 will also exist in Germany, as Nvidia confirmed to Computerbase. And this has one simple reason: the old-fashioned GDDR5 memory is no longer produced.

Since the graphics card should still be called the Geforce GTX 1650, despite automatically faster memory, Nvidia has tried to match both variants. This is why the GDDR6 version offers 50 percent more memory bandwidth, but slightly lower the TU117-GPU as compensation. The test will clarify the implications of this for the Turing generation’s new entry model.

A model of gigabytes in the test.

For the article, the Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1650 D6 Windforce OC has joined the editorial team. It is very similar to the Geforce GTX 1650 Windforce OC that has already been tested. On the following pages, Computerbase highlights the differences.

The Geforce GTX 1650 with some fine tuning.

The Geforce GTX 1650 with GDDR6 is technically largely identical to the Geforce GTX 1650 with GDDR5 memory. The smallest Turing GPU, the TU117, is being used again. 896 shader units are active; there is a 128-bit memory interface, a 4GB memory and the maximum Power consumption is 75 watts - there will be models with one and without an additional 6-pin power plug.

Instead of GDDR5, however, GDDR6 memory is used, which no longer works at 4,000 Mhz, but at 6,000 Mhz. Accordingly, the memory bandwidth is 192 GB/s instead of 128 GB/s, which is an increase of 50 percent. To compensate for this, Nvidia has reduced the beat of the GPU. For example, the chip manufacturer no longer gives the average boost clock at 1,665 Mhz, but 1,590 Mhz, so that the raw power of the new model is 5 percent lower. The base clock is 1,410 Mhz instead of 1,485 Mhz.

Die Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1650 D6 Windforce OC im Detail.

The Geforce GTX 1650 D6 Windforce OC is currently Gigabyte’s top model among the GDDR6 variants. Although it is not the same as the Geforce GTX 1650 Windforce OC with GDDR5 - the PCB and the monitor connections are different -, the two versions undoubtedly show a strong relationship. The graphic card is currently listed and available from 170 euros.

The Geforce GTX 1650 D6 Windforce OC, 19.5 cm long, is a rather short graphics card, with the cooling system standing well above the board, which comes to only 15 cm. Four voltage transformer circuits are present on the board and a 6-pin power plug is required for operation.

The cooling system is simple: there is no more than one simple aluminium heat sink with some coarse lamellae. Two 75 mm axial fans are responsible for the fresh air, which stop operation at low temperatures. The Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1650 D6 Windforce OC is over-clocked. The average turbo is 1,710 Mhz, 120 Mhz higher than the Nvidia reference. The maximum power consumption is the usual 75 watts.

The Gigabyte graphics card can be controlled by means of a DVI, Displayport-1.4 or HDMI-2.0b connector. This makes the GDDR6 model significantly different from the GDDR5 version, which has been equipped with three HDMI and one display location.
