From MSI come three LGA-1200 motherboards with B460 chipset, which can be equipped with new Intel processors of the generation Comet Lake-S. The MAG B460 Tomahawk and MAG B460M Bazooka (Wifi) are three boards in the middle class. All three Micro-ATX and ATX motherboards offer 2.5 Gbit LAN.

After Asrock and Biostar, MSI is the third established motherboard manufacturer to officially make its first mid-range boards for Intel’s mainstream Cpus (test) based on the B460 chipset. Among the unveiled models are the MAG B460 Tomahawk designed in ATX form factor and the two-variant Micro-ATX motherboard MAG B460M Mortar (Wifi).

MAG line, which usually rank in the Oberliga when it comes to layout, choice of components and equipment. Accordingly, the B460 Tomahawk and the MAG B460M Mortar (Wifi) offer in addition to a 12+1+1 phase voltage regulation for the CPU socket LGA 1200 and the four DIMM slots further sophisticated equipment details, such as a fast LAN chip for the 2.5 Gbit network. In addition, the Tomahawk model offers an additional chip (Asmedia 3241) for a fast USB connection, which is specified according to the standard USB 3.2 Gen 2 2 for a data transfer of up to 20 Gbit/s. Another RJ45 port also transmits data to the network at a maximum of 1 gigabit per second.

Like the overall better equipped Tomahawk, the MAG B460M Mortar (Wifi) is more than average equipped despite the more compact form factor for a B460 substructure. In addition to 2.5 Gbit LAN, two fully connected M.2 slots for Nvme SSD and two x16 slots for graphics and expansion cards are available. And the audio solution from Realtek installed on the B460 mortar boards is also one of the better on the market. In addition, the MAG B460 Mortar Wifi factory-installed a WLAN module from Intel, which masters communication according to the standard Wi-Fi 6.

The other common features of the motherboards include the four RAM slots, in which memory is supported up to a speed of 2,933 Mhz, six SATA ports for storage media and two display outputs. A sufficient number of USB Type-A ports is also an equal value between B460 Tomahawk and the two B460 Mortar.

Sales start at the end of May

All B460 motherboards of the MAG series will be sold according to MSI at the end of May. The manufacturer has not yet announced an exact date and pricing.
