Xiaomi has announced that the company will be selling the first OLED-transparent TV with a 55-inch and 120 Hz Mi TV LUX Transparent Edition from 16 August. At the price of more than 6,000 euros, the Smart TV with MediaTek-9650-SoC will be launched exclusively in China for the time being.
Xiaomi creates transparent illusion
In order to achieve an almost perfect illusion of complete transparency, the manufacturer has housed all the hardware and switching technology in the massive base of the 55-inch OLED TV, says Xiaomi in his statement.
The particularly thin borders of the display edges should further enhance the "transparency effect". Xiaomi does not answer whether transparency can be regulated on request and depending on the environment.
Xiaomi Mi TV LUX OLED Transparent Edition
The Chinese manufacturer is promoting the Mi TV LUX Transparent Edition with a static contrast ratio of 150,000:1, a value that is more likely to be due to marketing than reality, a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a coverage of 93 percent of the DCIP3 color space. Xiaomi himself speaks of a 10-bit panel with 1.07 billion colors and 4K resolution. It is unclear whether ALLM (Auto-Low-Latency) and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) are supported.
Dolby Atmos and better sound thanks to AI
The Mi TV LUX Transparent Edition is based on a previously unknown ARMv7 SoC of the MediaTek 9650 type, a TV SoC specially adapted according to Xiaomi, and the MIUI 12 user interface based on Android TV.
While Dolby Atmos and more than 20 "algorithms" are supposed to take care of AI-supported image and sound improvement, according to Xiaomi, the various always-on functions make it possible to display notifications and updates in an energy-saving manner. In conjunction with the MediaTek 9650, the so-called "AI Master Smart Engine" will bring all functions together intelligently and coordinate them, says the manufacturer.
Available exclusively in China from 16 August
According to Xiaomi, the Mi TV LUX Transparent Edition will go on sale exclusively as a 55-inch model and exclusively in China from 16 August. The price is 49,999 Chinese yuan, which currently corresponds to around 6,080 euros.
It is still unclear whether the manufacturer will bring the 5.7 mm thin TV to Germany like the Mi Curved Gaming monitor.
