DualShock instead of DualSense: PlayStation 5 support PS4 controller - for PS4 games
DualShock instead of DualSense |
Sony takes a closer look at which PS4 peripherals will be compatible with the Playstation 5. The Dualshock 4 wireless controller on the Playstation 4 can also be used on the PS5 - but only for Playstation 4 games.
According to Sony, the Dualshock 4 controller and third-party gamepad controllers officially licensed by Playstation can be used for supported PS4 games on Playstation 5, but not for new Playstation 5 games. They require the new controllers, as Sony wants the new features of the PS5’s new Dualsense wireless controller to be used.
Steering wheels and flying sticks work with PS5 games
However, Sony also elaborates on the compatibility of other peripherals. Special peripherals such as officially licensed steering wheels, arcade sticks and flying sticks will be compatible with new Playstation 5 games as well as supported PS4 games and will continue to be fully usable. Platinum and Gold Edition wireless headsets and third-party headsets connected via a USB or audio port can still be used on the Playstation 5, but not the headset companion app.
In general, Sony points out that the compatibility only applies to officially licensed peripherals and that in case of doubt, the user should ask the manufacturer directly whether the accessories will be compatible with the Playstation 5.
PS-VR accessories and camera compatible with PS5
Both the PS-Move motion controller and the Playstation VR target controller are compatible with supported PS-VR games on the PS5. In addition, the Playstation Camera for PS4 is compatible with the PS5, which can also be used on the Playstation 5 PS VR games. However, this requires a camera adapter that should be made available to PS-VR users at no additional cost. However, Sony does not yet provide details about this and when it will be sent to users, but refers to further information at a later date. Whether the Playstation Camera can be used at the start of the Playstation 5 is therefore still open at first.
Xbox One controller also available for Xbox Series X
While the Xbox 360 controllers could not be used with the Xbox One, Microsoft has announced that the Xbox One controllers can also be used with the upcoming Xbox Series X. The changes between the generations of controllers are less pronounced by Microsoft this time than by Sony.
