AMD naming strategy is becoming increasingly opaque for less experienced customers, but even informed users are slowly posing a dilemma for Renoir at the latest: What is new and what is old? Rumors now say that AMD could clean up with Zen 3, Vermeer skipped the 4000 and started directly as Ryzen 5000.

What is the most powerful CPU 2020?

The designation Ryzen 4000 already implies that these Cpus are better than Ryzen 3000. But they are not, because the Apus, which are now available as Ryzen 4000U, Ryzen 4000H, Ryzen 4000G and Ryzen 4000GE, have the same technical level based on Zen 2 as all Ryzen 3000 Cpus alias Matisse. However, AMD has always allowed the Apus to advance one generation in the naming scheme, because they were clearly too late in time and they ultimately did not want the products to be launched as an old model.

However, a clear cut with a quasi-restart as Ryzen 5000 for Zen 3 would make extreme sense and bring the novelties of Zen 3 into focus even more clearly than Ryzen 4000X would do between the other four variants. Whether it will be implemented in this way at the end of the year will become clear.
