Graphics card cooler: Alphacool Ice Wolf 2 cools the entire PCB with water

Alphacool presents the first full cover AIO water cooler for graphics cards
Alphacool Eiswolf 2 GPU AIO Released

Alphacool offers a complete water cooling for the graphics card. In addition to its expandability, the special feature of the Eiswolf 2 is that not only the pure GPU is cooled: The model relies on a full cover block that normally only covers the entire PCB when the circuits are assembled.

In contrast to the popular Aio coolers with Asetek design, Alphacool does not simply strap a CPU cooler with an additional fan to the GPU. The Fullcover block also cools the memory and voltage converter of the graphics card with water and thus better. Alphacool therefore also speaks of a real and complete "water cooling, which is not a normal" - meaning a DIY cycle - solution.

In addition to the cooler, the Eiswolf 2 includes a 240 mm radiator in full copper design with two RGB fans (800 to 2,000 rev/min) and a pump unit of the type DC-LT 2.It is supposed to work quieter than its predecessors and rotates at a maximum of 2,300 rev/min. The pump is placed at the terminal of the GPU cooling block. The Eiswolf 2 can also be extended by quick release by further radiators or a CPU cooler, all components of the system with the exception of the pump are also offered individually as an alternative to the pre-assembled and filled set. The set is also available without radiator, unless a 240 mm model is required. Pre-filled heat exchangers can be purchased in sizes 240, 280 and 360 mm.

Which graphics card is supported depends on the version purchased, it must be selected to match the existing GPU. The series is compatible with AMD graphics cards with RX 5700 and RX 5700XT and Nvidia models of the Geforce RTX 2080 (Ti), 2080 Super and 2070 Super series. A graphics card with the PCB and layout of the reference design or the Founders Edition is required, compatibility lists are maintained by Alphacool for Nvidia (PDF) and AMD (PDF) on the homepage. According to Alphacool, further Eiswolf 2 offshoots for own designs from various manufacturers will follow shortly. The basis is always the illuminated full cover block of the Aurora series.

Expensive, but also good

In retail, the Eiswolf 2 is to be found in the standard configuration for about 195 euros. A first test by Igor’s Lab proves that the high price offers an equivalent value. Among other things, the quiet pump and the cooling capacity are praised.
