Unreal Engine 4.25 introduces support for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X

As the launch of the next generation of consoles approaches, developers are already working on new games or migrating the old ones to new hardware. Many projects run on Epic Games' Unreal Engine, and the company has added support for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X. Initial features for future systems are in beta phasetesting - Epic promises to expand and improve support during the remaining months before launch.

Epic Games released Unreal Engine 4.25, noting that the new version of the popular game engine has pre-support for the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X. In future updates, Epic promises to add optimizations, corrections, and certification requirements. In the meantime, it’s basically about beta testing.

Support for PS5 and XBSX are not the only changes to Unreal 4.25. For example, the Niagara (VFX) visual effects system came out in this update from the stage of «beta», having been run-in and tested in Fortnite. Promised improved performance and stability, as well as improved interface and other.

New features include the ability to create complex large-scale effects of particles, such as clusters and chains, and to make particles respond to music or other sources of sound, all in real time.

Some features of Chaos’s advanced physics and destruction system have entered the beta phase. Chaos, for example, now supports destruction, fabric, hair, skeletal body controls for objects like tails on the head.
