TSMC fab in the USA will be done

TSMC announced its intention to build and operate an advanced semiconductor fab in the United States
That said, yesterday, the Taiwan giant officially confirmed its intention to build a factory in Arizona, via a post on its website. The Wall Street Journal states that TSMC made the decision at a board meeting held Tuesday in Taiwan.
The Trump administration has been negotiating for several months with TSMC executives, aware that the waiting times for the shipment of components from Asia to the United States have greatly increased due to the coronavirus pandemic, and a general concern about America’s dependence on Asian technology (both for economic and security reasons).
We don’t know if TSMC made the decision under the promise of financial incentives, but that’s more than plausible. We shouldn’t have supply chains. We should produce all the chips directly in the United States", said President Trump on Fox Business last Thursday.
TSMC to Build Chip Plant in Arizona With U.S. Government
In line with the Wall Street Journal report, the factory will produce 5nm chips and a capacity of 20,000 wafers per month. TSMC states that the new fab that will be built in Arizona will need = over 1,600 employees" and that it will generate = thousands of indirect jobs in the semiconductor ecosystem.
This project will have several effects: it will reduce the unemployment rate, it will allow multinational companies in the sector to access the chips faster during the pandemic and it could even improve relations between Washington and Huawei (although this is unlikely). TSMC will invest $12 billion in the construction of the fab. Work should begin in 2021, while chip production in 2024.
