With the TVS-h1288X and TVS-h1688X from the Enterprise NAS series, QNAP introduces powerful hardware that can also be upgraded to QNAP first Thunderbolt 3 NAS via expansion card. With Xeon processor, 10 Gigabit LAN, M.2 slots for NVMe SSDs and QuTS hero OS with ZFS, the systems also offer a lot of other options.

Xeon W-1250 for 12 or 16 drives

While the TVS-h1288X-W1250-16G can accommodate eight 3.5-inch and four 2.5-inch drives via SATA and has over 16GB (28GB) of DDR4-ECC memory, the TVS-h1688X-W1250-32G can even accommodate up to twelve 3.5-inch and four 2.5-inch drives, and offers 32GB of DDR4-ECC memory (2 16 GB). Both NAS support up to 128 GB of DDR4 ECC RAM. For the processor, both models rely on the Intel Xeon W-1250 with six cores and 3.3 GHz base clock, which can be raised up to 4.7 GHz in turbo mode.

NVMe SSDs can be integrated via the two internal M.2 slots for the 22110 and 2280 formats to use an SSD cache, by which the IOPS performance can be increased and the latency of the memory volume for databases as well as applications of virtual machines can be reduced.

Fast USB connections

There are also differences with the USB ports. The TVS-h1288X offers five USB 3.2 Gen-2 ports at a 10 Gbit/s transfer rate, two of which are Type-C and three Type-A. The TVS-h1688X, on the other hand, has six USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports with up to 10 Gbit/s installed, two of them as Type-C, but four as Type-A.

Both models also allow the installation of two separately available QNAP QXP-T32P Thunderbolt 3 PCIe expansion cards to add four Thunderbolt 3 ports.

2 10 GbE, 4 2,5 GbE

For the network interfaces, both new NAS offer two 10GBASE-T ports that support 10 Gbit/s and 1 Gbit/s, plus four 2.5 Gigabit RJ45 ports. Three PCIe expansion slots (2 x4, 1 x8) can be equipped with additional cards, whereby the dual port 10GBASE-T-NIC is already installed in an x8 port. In addition, the systems offer an HDMI 1.4b output that supports maximum 4K resolution at 30 Hz, a 3.5mm microphone jack, an audio output, an integrated speaker and an internal 550-watt power supply.

ZFS with QuTS hero

The TVS-h1288X and TVS-h1688X run with the ZFS-based QuTS hero operating system and support data integrity and self-healing. Multiple RAID configurations with triple parity and triple mirror are also supported to improve data security. Data reduction is achieved by inline data deduplication, compression and compression. In addition, QuTS hero supports snapshots and versioning. The block-based SnapSync can also hold a secondary NAS in real time with identical data.
