SFR new offering consists of two components:

ADSL/fibre modem and a TV decoder.This Box 8 will be charged 7 euros per month in addition to your internet plan, which can be combined with any offer from the operator.

This gives us an entry ticket of 22€/month for 12 months, then 40 if you take the ADSL offer, and 22€/month then 45 from the second year for the fiber offer (of course, to this is added the registration fee or the change of equipment for SFR customers). A mysterious statement inviting to come "discover the new SFR experience" and a categorical refusal to say more. Few knew exactly what to expect when they set foot in the Altice Campus on Thursday. The brand new "Box TV SFR 8" freshly presented will be offered to High Speed (ADSL) and Very High Speed (fibre) subscribers as of August 20 (the FTTB, smart home and Amazon Alexa offer arriving only in October). Connected like the Delta and the other jewels of the market, it aligns itself with most of the technical characteristics of its competitors, while differentiating itself with some novelties.

SFR decided to put the package on the connection. The new box 8 incorporates wi-fi 6, the latest standard. A first whose promise is a "smart connection", capable of equipping several hundred devices at home at a much higher-than-average rate. On the side of the image and sound, new also with the compatibility Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos to which is added the 4K HDR. Not all Tvs and content are yet compatible with these new formats, but we are not doing better on the market today.

SFR Box 8 AVIS

While the Delta de Free features the 4K HDR, it does not benefit from these new sound features. On the design side, we find a black square, very sober. Its weight has not been unveiled but this new box 8 stands out for its lightness. It has dimensions of 15x15 cm with a much more compact and universal case than the Delta, but also less connectors. Here, only an Ethernet plug, a TNT antenna plug and a USB Type-C port equip the machine.

Amazon or Alexa? 

If not always innovative, the box 8 is always on the level of the other high-end offers of its opponents. Like the Delta, it is a connected speaker. In addition to its speakers, it also introduces voice assistance. A simple "Ok SFR" will allow you to invoke the home assistant and manage your experience as you wish. He seems receptive and responds faithfully to the request submitted to him, even with a significant background noise. The search "Ok SFR, find me films with Angelina Jolie" was successful. If the program is available with the offer that the viewer has subscribed to, it will be indicated. Otherwise, box 8 will recommend the different sites and platforms where it is available. Thanks to a redesigned mobile app, all content can also be viewed on the go on a computer, mobile or tablet.

From October, Box 8 will also be offered with Amazon’s Alexa, which is also available from its direct competitor. The sound experience is not overseen by Devialet as in its rival and SFR did not give any details on the manufacturer who took care of this part of the device. Only certainty, its price will be more competitive than that of its rival and SFR has not failed to make it known.

SFR has also decided to give pride of place to the Iot (the "Internet of Things") with its new box. Smart home enthusiasts will be able to subscribe to the new SFR Home offer. Basic, it includes a connected and controllable camera, plug and light bulb from the dedicated voice assistant or mobile app. Nothing innovative here, a similar offer is offered at Free for Delta holders.

SFR Box simple and efficient interface !

No big revolutions in the user interface of the Box 8. It is clean, classic and quite intuitive. It almost feels like Netflix, or Youtube. Once again, the originality is more to look for on the side of features that include:

The programmes are put forward more than the channels, the idea being to adapt to the new consumer practices of the users. We also find the main TV applications (Netflix, Youtube, Bein, Canal +...) and of course the channels of the Altice group (RMC Sport...). Note the presence of the Chromecast function, convenient for streaming content on its television.

What price SFR Box ?

SFR did not want to communicate prices for its new box, it should just be much cheaper than most of its competitors, the Delta in mind. What we do know is that it will be available "Carte". There will be four offers, an ADSL and three fibers. Subscribers will then choose the channels and services to which they want to subscribe, without obligation. Access to the best fiber connections will not be conditional on the possession of a Box 8. It will only be offered as an option, alongside the seventh generation box.
