TSMC 5 nm production: Fab expansion for 30,000 additional wafers per month
TSMC 5 nm production |
TSMC is expanding its most modern factory in a third expansion stage by a production volume of 30,000 wafers per month. In the fourth quarter, this will be available for 5 nm production, and in the coming year, the capacity will be expanded by a further 17,000 WpM in the fourth phase.
At TSMC, step-by-step expansion is the rule to bring new factories to the grid as quickly as possible so that they can make money. After that, these are always expanded, usually in three or four phases, but also up to six are possible, if space permits.
30,000 5nm+ wafers
Because the original planning can be followed in the future even further, as happened last with Fab 15 and now apparently also with the new Fab 18 the case. While the third phase should actually be completed, a fourth phase of expansion should follow next year. With around 111,000 wafers per month, the self-imposed goal of a production capacity of around one million 300 mm wafers per year would be significantly exceeded two years ago.
