Ever since the spring, the question has arisen as to when the media giant HBO will expand its commitment in Europe as well. Now it seems clear that the streaming service HBO Max will be expanded internationally - and soon.

 This is reported by the online magazine Mobiflip and refers to the decisions made by the HBO owner Warnermedia. Streaming brings money, in times of the Corona crisis as well, if not more than ever before. So far, however, HBO had concentrated outside the US on the licensing business and made money for the self-produced series hits of recent years such as Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead and Westworld to the various partners worldwide.

Now the sales are to flow without detours, in addition, the success of Netflix is on the heels of the Warnermedia Group: The streaming service HBL Max is also to come to Europe and thus also to Germany, that was clear from the beginning, but they had announced to take their time. It was said at the beginning of the year that the international launch would be planned for 2025, but now everything is to go much faster. The planning is in full swing, but there is still no Official HBO Max is still unclear when it will start.

That means trouble for Sky

However, the whole thing also brings great unrest on the market, because HBO is currently in the business with numerous in-house productions that are licensed to other services. So the question now stands in the room, what will become of the offer of Sky - there are many of the exclusive HBO series to be seen in Germany. Offering and licensing series for a market itself makes little sense, so it is now expected that Sky will draw the short straw in the plans.

HBO Max starts in the USA at the end of May 2020 and thus entered the wedding of the corona crisis. The product mix includes many film classics and a total of six new in-house series productions. The start in Europe is now to be accelerated, but should only be possible for the coming year.This could have to do with the license business.
