The new QNAP switch with the QSW-1105-5T model, which is compatible with the 2.5GBase-T interface, is designed for the consumer segment. Apart from the previous range of network distributors for 10 Gbe networks, this represents the first start and has a rare value in view of the competition.
The QNAP QSW-1105-5T is designed as a standalone solution for operation freestanding on shelves or desks the maximum possible power consumption, powered by an external power supply, should be a maximum of 12 watts. The resulting waste heat of the chipset is handled fanless.

The housing of the QSW-1105-5T, which provides five RJ45 connectors of the 2.5GBase-T standard (IEEE 802.3bz) with full backward compatibility to 1000BASE-T (IEEE 802.3ab) and 100BASE-T (IEEE 802.3u), measures 34 180 145 mm (H B T). As a convenient plug-and-play solution for home networking, the 2.5 Gbe switch according to QNAP should include NAS, desktop PC, notebook and other devices that have a correspondingly fast network socket, easily integrate with higher transmission speeds.
Featuring five 2.5 Gbe ports, plug-and-play set up, automatic loop detection and blocking, and auto-negotiation functions, the QSW-1105-5T allows users to easily build a 2.5 Gbe network environment for their home or business.
In the announcement of the QSW-1105-5T, QNAP speaks of a cost-effective way to speed up the domestic network by reducing the cost of the usual new cabling. However, an official price point is not mentioned. Retailers are currently forecasting a cost point of at least 115 euros at market launch, but a delivery date is not yet foreseeable.
