Radeon Pro 5600M MacBook Pro receives unknown navigation GPU with HBM

AMD launches Radeon Pro 5600M with Navi 12 GPU
AMD Announces Radeon Pro 5600M Navi GPU with HBM2

The current Macbook Pro 16-inch from Apple is now available with a new mobile graphics card that has it all. Because this uses a GPU of AMD, which has not existed in this form yet. The Radeon Pro 5600M combines the RDNA architecture with HBM-2 memory.

The Radeon Pro 5600M offers 40 compute units and therefore 2,560 shading units. If this seems familiar, you probably think of the Navi-10-GPU, which is available with 40 Cus as Radeon RX 5700 XT in the desktop. However, the Radeon Pro 5600M does not rely on Navi 10, instead it is a GPU that has not existed so far.

How to Navi 10 with HBM2 instead of GDDR6

What is new is that the computing core does not rely on GDDR6 memory, but instead on faster and more energy-efficient HBM 2. And this is probably the GPU of the type Navi 12, of which one already knows for felt eternities that it exists and also that this probably combines 40 Cus with HBM 2, however, was still missing the suitable graphics card.

The Radeon Pro 5600 XT clocks the GPU at around 1,035 Mhz, resulting in a maximum computing power of 5.3 Tflops. This is significantly slower than the Radeon RX 5700 XT, which lets its 40 Cus work at up to 1,905 Mhz. The memory of the mobile graphics unit is divided into 2 HBM-2 stacks with 4 GB each. The memory expansion is a total of 8 GB, the memory interface is 2,048 bit wide - Vega 10 sends its greetings. The memory is operated at 770 Mhz, giving a bandwidth of 394 GB/s, about 50 GB/s less than on the Radeon RX 5700 XT. The power consumption is 50 watts.

Currently the GPU is Apple-exclusive

Apart from the other configuration, there are no known, significant differences between Navi 10 and the presumed Navi 12. The GPU is currently Apple-exclusive and may remain so. The extra charge for the Radeon Pro 5600 XT in the Macbook Pro 16 inch is 875 euros compared to the Radeon Pro 5500M with 4 GB and 750 euros compared to the Radeon Pro 5500M with 8 GB. The Radeon Pro 5500M is based on the much smaller and also slower Navi-14-GPU. In the consumer desktop there is Navi 14 on the Radeon RX 5500 XT. The Radeon RX 5600 XT in the desktop uses Navi 10 with GDDR6 like the larger cards and thus differs significantly from the mobile version.
