While the Xbox Series X of the American publisher Microsoft is still planned for the end of 2020 worldwide, Ina Gelbert, director of Xbox France, said that we should not be in the most affected countries if there is a shortage due to the Covid-19 pandemic: “The choice we made on this launch is really to be present in more countries than at the launch of the Xbox One. Today I do not see any risk for France, in any case. But if tomorrow, a few days before the launch, there’s a huge containment in the world...that’s not going to be able to do much about it. In any case, in our plan today, we have the units for launch. France is in the priority countries. Now, will we have enough... It’s always a big issue, and that’s where we get into discussions for us, and that’s my role, to favour France over other countries. Show that we have the community, that we have the market, that there are huge expectations around the Xbox Series X in France and that we need units to cover this demand.”
Xbox Series X production underway
Without really saying it, Ina Gelbert strongly suggests that the production of the new Xbox has already been launched in the factories: “It’s a lot of work to launch consoles like this, given the number of components etc. The lines to be set up in the factories… There is a lot of work.” This is in line with the recent comments by Lisa Su, President and CEO of AMD, who said she wanted to accelerate the production of her products to “support the launch of the new PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles during the holidays.”
Sony should not wait too long to unveil the PS5’s design as June will be important to officially launch the production of its consoles. It will therefore be impossible to avoid leaks at that time.
