Parrot 4.9 is available, based on the Debian Testing package, which includes a suite of tools for system security testing, forensic analysis and reverse engineering. Several iso-images with MATE environment (full 3.9 GB and reduced 1.7 GB) and KDE desktop (2 GB) are offered for booting.

The Parrot distribution is marketed as a portable laboratory with an environment for security and forensics experts, focusing on tools to test cloud systems and Internet things devices. It also includes cryptographic tools and secure network connectivity, including TOR, I2P, anonsurf, gpg, tccf, zulucrypt, veracrypt, truecrypt and luks.

In the new issue:

1. Synchronization with Debian Testing as of April 2020.

2. Linux kernel upgraded to version 5.5.

3. Packages associated with Python 2 have been removed.

4. Work has been done to improve the menu structure and to simplify navigation on application lists.

5. The Anonsurf (anonymous mode) is significantly updated, which is now run as a background process and can be activated during boot.

Live builds offer a new installer based on the Calamares project (the supply of conventional installation images with the classic Debian installer is saved).
