Why are some iOS apps and websites spinning from today

If suddenly a website on the Mac does not load or an iOS app crashes, the user is exceptionally not to blame.

Today, September 1st, iOS and macOS (and other operating systems) will have somewhat stricter security certificate requirements. These are the same specifications as they already apply everywhere to websites (marked with a lock in the address bar). Apple requires website operators and app developers that the TLS server certificates used do not remain valid for more than 398 days, that is, slightly more than a year. If this is not the case, the affected website will no longer be loaded under iOS and macOS.

New rules for allowances apply from the first of September.

Apps are also affected: If an app has an invalid certificate, it will crash in the support area according to Apple’s description. However, certificates issued before the first of September do not concern this scheme. Only current security certificates from 1 September and newer may not be valid for more than 397 days. As a user in such a case, you can only do a little, only web admins or app developers have access to these security files.
