VivoBook 12 and the larger VivoBook 14, Asus has launched two affordable notebooks for less demanding home users, educational institutions and businesses. Three refreshing colour variants are offered in a 12-inch or 14-inch form factor together with a reduced Windows 10 Home S at prices starting at 269 euros.

Small entry-level notebooks in fresh colours

The two new additions to Asus' VivoBook family are small, lightweight and thus designed for high portability. For the VivoBook 12 L210, Asus names a weight of 1,005 grams, the larger VivoBook 14 L410 should weigh 1,300 grams. The manufacturer has not yet revealed exact dimensions. The corresponding product pages, which should provide more information on the technical details, are currently not publicly available.

In addition, both notebooks are primarily designed as cost-effective tools for a wide range of applications. Windows 10 in the slimmer Home-S version is pre-installed. The three colour variants "Peacock Blue", "Rose Pink" and Dreamy White" are intended to provide a fresh impetus with trend colours. The housing is promoted by the manufacturer as an exclusive, stylish matrix design.

Pentium CPU, 4 GB RAM and 128 GB eMMC memory

In addition to the compactness in combination with a special optics, the VivoBook 12 (L210) and VivoBook 14 (L410) are technically equal. Both have in common an Intel CPU from the Gemini Lake refresh generation with four cores. The Intel Celeron N5030 is called, which does not exist in Intel’s 2019 portfolio. Instead, it is most likely the Pentium Silver N5030, which offers a maximum clock frequency of 3.1 gigahertz as the fastest entry-level CPU from Intel. This is combined with 4 GB DDR4-RAM, which is in all likelihood soldered to the board. A dedicated graphics card is not available, the GPU integrated in the processor, Intel’s HD Graphics 605, takes over the calculation of the image signals. For both VivoBooks, Asus uses cheap and rather slow eMMC storage with a capacity of 128 GB.

Display, battery and other features still nebulous

Even the installed display Asus makes so far only fractional data. Whether in 12 inch or 14 inch, the manufacturer only calls the term "NanoEdge". In both versions, the screen can also be folded 180 degrees for high flexibility. Concrete key data on the panel type and the maximum brightness, the contrast ratio and the color space coverage are not made.

As a special feature of VivoBook 12 and 14, Asus puts the built-in NumberPad 2.0" in the foreground, which provides, as a replacement for the missing native numeric keypad of the keyboard, switchable number keys by means of LEDs below the glass surface of the touchpad. Regarding the installed battery and its capacity, Asus is still covered. This is supposed to keep the new VivoBooks running off the socket for one working day.

Now available for 269 Euro and 279 Euro

For the VivoBook 12 L210 Asus price  269 Euro, for the larger 14-inch notebook the manufacturer demands 10 Euro more. Both notebooks should be available now.
