Agon series: AOC brings nano IPS monitor with 165 Hz and 1 ms GtG

According to AOC, the AG273QXP gaming monitor for the first time uses a nano IPS panel with coated backlight for a larger color spectrum. The 27-inch monitor represents the WQHD resolution with up to 165 Hz and 1 ms response time. Full HD with 240 Hz and 0.5 ms is available on the AG251FZ2E.

The coating with nanoparticles in the LED backlight of the AG273QXP ensures that the light-emitting diodes cover a wider color spectrum. As a result, AOC promises an expanded color space in the range of 133 percent for sRGB, 98.6 percent for Adobe RGB and 98.1 percent for DCI-P3. The term "nano-IPS" was coined by panel manufacturer LG and is now used not only for LG monitors, but also for devices from other manufacturers. One example is the Viewsonic XG270QG (Test), whose specifications are very similar to the new AOC model.

AOC AG273QXP

The 2,560 1,440 pixels are displayed with the AOC AG273QXP at up to 165 Hz.The indication of 1 ms (Gtg) is often found in nano IPS panels. However, unlike the above-mentioned Viewsonic counterpart, there is no G-Sync module installed.AOC only advertises with support for Freesync Premium. HDR content can be displayed, but there is no certification for a high dynamic range.

AOC AG273QXP

The connectors consist of two Displayport 1.4 and two HDMI 2.0 ports, a USB hub (2 USB 3.2 Gen 1) and a headphone output. The stand allows, among other things, a height adjustment and pivot. Light FX calls AOC the RGB lighting on the back, which can be individually controlled. The screen menu (OSD) can be operated via joystick on the monitor, the supplied cable remote control (AOC Game Pad) or via software (AOC G-Menu).

AOC AG251FZ2E with 240 Hz and 0.5 ms

As an improved version of the gaming monitor AG251FZ, AOC refers to the new AG251FZ2E, which also represents 1,920 1,080 pixels at 240 Hz on TN panel technology. The unchanged reaction time of 1 ms for the grey change (Gtg) is now supplemented by the specification of 0.5 ms MPRT. MPRT stands for Moving Picture Response Time and is not equivalent to Gtg. The low MPRT value is achieved as usual via a strobing backlight, which usually significantly reduces motion blur (motion blur). Freesync Premium is supported.

AOC AG251FZ2E

As a further upgrade to the predecessor, AOC describes the stand, which according to the manufacturer is at the same time more robust and compact. However, the predecessor also provides options for aligning the display in height and inclination as well as for horizontal or vertical pivoting; the same applies to the height scale and the headset holder. A total of six video inputs are unusually large for a gaming monitor. Two older standards are added to two Displayport 1.2, one HDMI 2.0 and one HDMI 1.4, each with DVI and VGA. USB 3.2 Gen 1 alias USB 3.0 with connector type A is represented four times.In addition to audio input and output, there are integrated speakers. In turn, RGB light plays on the housing are omitted.

Prices and availability

The new Agon Series monitors will be available for players in August 2020. For the AOC AG251FZ2E a recommended price of 409 Euro and for the AOC AG273QXP a recommended price of 489 Euro is pronounced.
